HEF Small Business Spotlight: When Love Works Dynamically
"HEF services and entrepreneurial success go hand in hand."
When Love Works Dynamically (WLWD) was established by Elitia and Cullen Mattox in 2013. The company’s mission is to disrupt the status quo of unhealthy relationships within historically marginalized communities. This certified New York State & New York City Women and Minority Business Enterprise is a provider of development and coaching services for individuals or groups who want to create and maintain healthy relationships in their personal and professional lives and for those who are survivors of domestic violence or other related crimes. Their style is unique because its methodology includes a consciousness element that transcends typical, interpersonal engagement.
In November 2020, after learning about HEF’s products and services at the Harlem Business Alliance, Mr. and Mrs. Mattox applied for and were approved for a HEF loan. The funds were used to obtain short-term working capital to facilitate the mobilization of a contract, awarded by the NYC Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice to alleviate crime and reduce domestic violence. The Mattox's initially searched for funding online and realized they did not meet the criteria for a traditional loan. After seeking further assistance from a local bank, the staff did not support their application process and seemed visibly disinterested in meeting with the couple.
Recently, they also secured a technical assistance provider contract from the Mayor's Office of Criminal Justice (MOCJ) for their Mayor's Action Plan (MAP) for the Neighborhood Safety initiative to provide a comprehensive healthy relationship capacity-building training to community-based organizations (CBOs), local groups and residents within six NYCHA developments across the Bronx and Brooklyn.
As a result of their engagement with the Harlem Entrepreneurial Fund, Mr. and Mrs. Mattox stated, "HEF services and entrepreneurial success go hand in hand.
